Employed in various technical capacities with Uniroyal, Inc. from October, 1939
to September, 1980.
1939-1942 Tire Testing
Work consisted of running laboratory tire test equipment for destructive testing
of tires,
road testing of
tires
under controlled conditions,
analysis of tires
which had been deliberately
failed under controlled laboratory and road conditions, analysis of
tires
failed under uncontrolled
conditions and writing of test reports.
1942 Fuel Cell Development
Development of materials for lining of aircraft gas tanks which would tend to
prevent loss of fuel and fires when fuel tanks were struck by bullets.
1942-1945 Synthetic Rubber Tire Development
Worked with new synthetic materials to develop tires practical for operation. The majority of this work was in the field of
tires
for military equipment and
also included liaison work with other major tire producers, as during this
period all developments were exchanged between companies. Also included the
following of experimental materials and tires through
factory manufacturing operations.
1945 Manager Development Product Control
On this assignment, I was responsible for setting up a new department to follow
the processing and manufacture of all experimental tires, both on factory equipment and in pilot plant operation.
1946-1951 Tire Engineering Research
Work consisted of long range basic tire developments. Included in this work were
basic design studies, study of failure characteristics of
tires
and analysis of tire tread
wear. Also during a considerable portion of this period, I headed up the group
responsible for tubeless tire development, although the tubeless tire was not
marketed until 1954.
1951-1954 Manager Technical Personnel & Finance
I was responsible for the hiring and training of all new technical personnel for
Product Development until such time they were given specific job assignments. In
addition, I was responsible for budget problems and long range feasibility
studies.
1955-1956 Manager Mold Designing
This department was responsible for the design of the molds which actually form
the finished tire during the vulcanization process.
1956-1962 Manager Operations
This department included all of the service departments of Product Development.
I was responsible for all experimental tires produced,
all tire testing, all specifications for production of
tires
at all plants of the company,
mold design, experimental mold manufacturing, and photography.
1962-1965 Manager Road Testing
On this assignment, all testing of tires for the company
outside of the laboratory was my responsibility. My major assignment was the
development, designing, building, and putting into operation the world's most
complete tire proving ground. This multi-million dollar facility was built on
7,000 acres of land near Laredo, Texas in 1963, and started operation about the
beginning of 1964. I was responsible for developing all test procedures and
training personnel for this operation.
1965-1980 Manager Tire Reliability
On this assignment, I did technical work relating to the manufacture and
operation of tires,
consulted with other groups
on testing procedures and feasibility studies, worked on outside projects with
other companies relating to tire problems.
1959-1980
Responsible for all technical phases of major product claims relating to
tires.
This included analysis of
tires
and wheels involved,
preparation of technical material, and consultation with attornies.
1966-To Date
Independent consulting relating to tire failure analysis and tire related
accidents.
I have testified in more than 375 trials in 38 states on all types of claims
relating to tire failures.
